Movement

As if the beginning of July wasn't eventful, the end might be just as much so. #3 David Roldan continues a steady climb up the charts, especially in PRB. There he sits within 0.2 AF of #1 Abel Marques after a 0.4688 AF cut, so don't be surprised to see the crown possibly switch yet again. He hits high level PRs with ease, such as PG PRB 1'26"185 Myth D (#2) + 27"803 Myth A (#3) and YC 1'25"836 God (#2) + 27"737 God (#4). Then he decides to put just a little effort into it, and also cranks out two new world records. The first came on WS SC 3lap, where he obliterated Thomas' time by nearly a second to make the sub with a 1'50"969 God. As if that wasn't enough, he moved onto TTC flap, taking Abel's record there with an amazing 29"883. He already has some times waiting to be updated, so he'll be extremely close to Abel next update, and could be the next champion rolling into August. Although not as eventful, David also cut 0.1875 in Non-PRB, securing his top three spot.

#4 Dylan Gaunt almost overtook David this week with a 0.1719 AF cut, but wasn't quite able to catch him. He may have only hit two PRs, but a few important things happened. His first PR was only a BC flap of 36"491 God (#3), nothing special. His better time for the week came with some strong efforts on CI2 flap, where he snatched the Non-PRB record from fellow countrymen #2 Ben Stoneman with a time of 15"639 God. That pushes him up to six Non-PRB records now, tied for fourth with Lee Boon. The other great thing that happened for this week came on PRB. Although only his BC flap made the transition to that chart as well, it was enough to push his ARR down into the Myth E range, making him the sixth player to reach it in PRB.

Still chugging along, #17 Sawara continues to represent Japan on the Non-PRB charts with a 0.4376 AF cut this week, leaping over French Champion #18 Nicolas Barco. A 0.6406 AF cut in PRB helped solidify his position as he shoots for the top fifteen there. He added another top ten time to his arsenal with a LC1 PRB 3lap 1'10"989 Titan A (#9), showing possible potential to one day challenge #8 Huwakun for the throne in Japan. Another person still chugging is #38 Stefan Mayr, who I think has been active almost every week this entire year. He had a broken arm and still tried to play, that's dedication. Anyway, Stefan had an AF cut of 0.9688 to pass over former 1-day champion #39 Lars Stelzig, as he looks to topple me over next (although this may cause me to submit my 64/64 WR's ).

Some more PRB action, as there seems to be a mini-battle between #36 Anthony Valette and #37 Carlos Munoz. Both players had nice weeks, making respective AF cuts of 3.2500 and 2.6250. Anthony has been on a roll lately, as he's made great progress up the charts through July. He hit fifteen PRs this week, highlighted by an impressive TTC 3lap of 1'32"673 God (#9). Hopefully his Non-PRB rank will catch up that his PRB skills, as he stays put at #70 for now. Carlos might have possibly started playing again because Anthony passed him, or maybe not. Either way, his strong efforts weren't enough to make the pass back, although he did pass over two others in the process. Unfortunately for Carlos, he just missed out on Titan D overall this week, something Anthony was able to accomplish. There's always next week!

Technically not last or least as there are active players below him, #60 Patryk Choma made a small comeback. He hit dual PR's on RPC 56"841 Titan C + 18"212 Titan A, helping to make a tiny AF cut of 0.2500 and maintain his rank.

Movement outside the top 100 included #110 Alex Frasca -2.8590, #136 Daan Becker -6.5320 (Expert A to Hero E), #181 Alex Malone -7.0780 (Expert D to Expert C), #236 Jonathon Jones -66.8700 (Advanced C to Advanced A), #537 Tom Gaffikin -4.5320 and #547 Dexter Howe -18.9860 (Beginner A to Intermediate E).

New Records

There were 2 WR's improved (blue) and two non-prb times (pink).

These records were all mentioned earlier, but I'll rehash them for those who don't read all of the news. David decided to take some more WR's before making his Championship run, starting with WS SC 3lap. There, he took Thomas' 15-month old record, and beat it nearly by a full second, while reaching sub 1'51 with a time of 1'50"969. After that, he must have felt bad for taking one of Thomas' records, so he decided to take one from Abel also. So, he went for Abel's TTC flap from May, beating it by about a tenth of a second with a time of 29"883, thanks to the power of Waluigi!

For Non-PRB, David hit the TTC flap of 29"883. Aside from that, Dylan added another record to his name. He played a bit of CI2 flap, nabbing his sixth record with a time of 15"639, taking away from fellow Aussie karter Ben Stoneman, whose time was getting close to two years old.

Awards

David had a great week, but he's had his fair share of awards for now, it's nice to spread it out a little sometimes. So the player who gets it this week is the one with the biggest AF cut, and it was huge at that, almost 20%. He moved up a huge 55 spots and into the top 250. For making huge improvement and climbing so much in one week, Jonathon Jones wins the POW for the third week of July!

Movement

PRB #3 David Roldan is trying to close the gap towards #2 Thomas Bolton now after Abel passed him to start the month. Maybe we will see him push for the crown as well? He is making good progress so far, accumulating a 0.3437 AF cut to bring his AF easily sub 4.0 and within a point of the top spot. This was a result of eight PRs which were YF 46"385 Myth C + 15"186 Myth E, CCB 1'23"824 Myth C + 27"174 Myth B, DH 3lap 1'10"704 Myth C, DS 3lap 1'29"915 Myth C and WP 1'58"693 Titan A + 39"101 Myth D. With these times, he became the first person to sub 57" in overall times. All of these (apart from DH 3lap) were also Non-PRB PRs and Gods, giving him a 0.2969 AF cut to pass #4 Dylan Gaunt.

Sticking back to PRB, #16 Sawara continues to impress with a 0.7656 AF cut to jump over #17 Cole Gilbert. He is staying consistent by hitting five PRs this week, all mid-high Titans. Also active in the same area on the Non-PRB charts was #15 Matthew Ord. He had just a very small AF cut from an old time, but it was an impressive RLC2 3lap 1'18"373 Myth B, ranked 3rd. Shoutout to the also active #39 Stefan Mayr, who had a small PR on BC flap but wasn't enough to get an AF cut.

Lastly, we have #71 Anthony Valette of France, making a nice 5.7187 AF cut albeit moving up just two spots. It was enough to make him Titan D overall on the Non-PRB charts, although it is his activity in PRB that is really most important. His immense 41 PRs (a few old, but nearly all new) combined together to make a huge 13.2812 AF cut, enough to push him up fourteen spots into the #38 position, much higher than his #71 spot in Non-PRB. This moved him up in the Fench ranks as well to #7, right ahead of Kevin Sirman, while reaching Titan E overall. As mentioned earlier, he hit numerous times, including a great TTC 3lap of 1'33"245 Titan B. Hopefully more progress will follow from him soon, as he looks to have a lot of potential.

Movement outside the top 100 included #190 Alex Malone -5.5310, #215 Nicholas Harvey -1.0160, PRB #291 Jonathon Jones -32.0940 (Advanced C to Advanced B), #413 Alexander Fogel -1.8280 (Intermediate B to Intermediate A) and PRB #592 Dexter Howe -10.9380 (Beginner C to Beginner A).

New Records

There were no new records this week.

Awards

He had by far the biggest cut of the week, hitting new times on more than half the game. He moved himself into the PRB Titan rankings, and shows a lot of promise to continue further. For his great success this week and rapid movement, Anthony Valette wins the POW for the second week of July!

The Birth of a New Champion

Kevin @ Saturday, July 10th   [link]

Movement

What was the greatest reign in MKDS history is simply now just history. After years of hard work and the past few weeks of really cranking out times, #1 Abel Marques made the final push in order to pass over #2 Thomas Bolton and become the site champion! The astonishing pass was thanks to a 0.6563 AF cut, that brought him about 0.1 AF ahead of Thomas, and nearly gave him a sub 3.0 AF overall. He really brought his A-game this week putting together fifteen PRs, which were (yes, I will name every single one because they are THAT important) F8C 1'13"222 Titan A + 24"056 Myth E, LM 3lap 1'32"261 Myth B, WP flap 39"039 Myth D, TTC 3lap 1'31"523 Myth B, PG 3lap 1'26"378 Myth D, BC 3lap 1'52"997 Myth D, RR flap 35"101 Myth E, RMMF 3lap 1'03"301 Titan A, RBP 42"699 Myth D, RKB2 flap 12"794 Myth D, RCM flap 34"923 Myth B, RBB 1'44"510 + 34"488 Myth A's, and RSG 3lap 1"01"008 Myth C... phew. Along the way, he also made a massive ARR cut to become Myth C overall.

Etch already covered a lot of the history, so just some more minor details from this week. Abel still trails Thomas and/or David in every other PRB category, but I'm sure he doesn't mind that. Thomas still has those horrid RR times though, and could cut over a full AF point if he hits top times there, so Abel should be wary. That basically covers the PRB side for now. Some of this did translate over to Non-PRB as well, whether Abel likes it or not. He's already PRB champion so moving up the Non-PRB ranks couldn't hurt too much. All the PRs he hit that were also Non-PRB were God ranked, and resulted in a 0.3125 AF cut that brought his AF sub 10.0. A run to the top three and beyond is possible for Abel here, but for now, we shall just celebrate his PRB Championship!

Let us not forget the others who were active this week however. There was really only two other good cut inside the top 100, the first belonging to PRB #17 Sawara. He hit three nice PRs, which were DKP flap 34"983 God and KB2 PRB 40"895 + 12"966 Titan A's. This resulted in a 0.3438 AF cut, and solidified his position as he moves closer to a top fifteen spot. The other big cutter was #21 Simon Levy on the Non-PRB side, making an AF cut of 0.5781 to close the gap between himself and #20 Marshall LeVett to less than a point. His cuts were the efforts of some good PRs, which included WS 1'56"899 Myth C + 37"848 God and RDP1 56"479 Myth E + 17"889 Myth C. The RDP1 times are two French records for him, increasing his tally to 13 overall. #39 Stefan Mayr was also active with the minimum AF cut, coming from a BC flap of 38"219 Titan D.

Movement outside the top 100 included #113 Alex Frasca -1.1720, #195 Alex Malone -4.1560, #214 Tom Mannings -2.1570 (Expert E to Expert D) and #315 Christophe Charignon -0.7660.

Yes my mkds brethren, another page in the books has been written. Thomas Bolton's +1000 day reign as champ comes to a close as Abel Marques powered his way to the top this year. After finally getting serious about it, he set out to get the best set of times since probably forever. The last time we saw the crown threatened was when Ben Stoneman got all of his times into the top 10. This nearly got him ahead of Thomas over 2 years ago but as these matters are usually up to the kart gods, it wasn't meant to be. Abel already had some WR's under his belt so he was no stranger to getting good times. He made it a mission to improve and well pretty much kept his word. Joining just outside the top 100, he karted all the way to the top 25 in his first year and then reached the top 10 a year after that. This eventually set the stage for what was to come finishing last year as #3 before making the final push to World Champion. His dedication and skill is more than luck and further proof the lowest of the low can ascend to the ranks of gods!

So what can we expect in the future?

Well, the AF difference at the top isn't huge so anything is still possible really. While Abel holds overall #1 on prb, there is still the matter of WR tally which Thomas still leads with 28 non-sc times. Abel's biggest threat looming not so far behind is David Roldan who has 16 non-sc times in his name. Anyone who isn't a stranger to kart knows activity matters. Nothing in kart is safe and since all of these toppies have put out WR's this year, there is no telling what will happen. It's been so long since the title switched between players and this will remain a testament to Thomas' dominance of time trials over the years.

Thanks for giving me something to update over the years and the hope there will be more WR's to come!

Movement

PRB #2 Abel Marques is really making a charge for that top spot, so champion Thomas Bolton should watch his back. Abel cranked out a 0.2812 AF cut, which is pretty strong at the sub-4 AF level. This brought Abel within 0.6 AF of Thomas, as he tries to bring all of his times into the top five. On the unimportant Non-PRB charts, he made a huge 1.1875 AF cut from beating down weak times, and moved up two spots over #7 Alibis van Deaf and #8 Giulio Centrone. More weeks like this can push him towards the top five here, and a championship on the PRB charts. Ahead of Abel in Non-PRB is #3 Dylan Gaunt, who passes #4 David Roldan and gains a bit of a cushion with a 0.3125 AF cut. He seems to focus more on these charts, and can maybe make a run to #2 Ben Stoneman one day, which would also make him Australian champion.

#18 Sawara gained a spot this week by passing the special one; two PRs to make a 0.7031 AF cut leave him also dangerously close to #17 Nicolas Barco. In the process, he became Myth B overall, and he has moved along steadily in his first month on the charts. Right behind him as always is #21 Simon Levy, making a 0.5156 AF cut to move closer and closer to the to twenty which he desires so much. Also vying for a possible top twenty spot, #23 Dallas Wilde made a 0.6875 AF cut, although stays put in his spot. He has a lot of ground to cover in order to catch Simon and beyond, but he has the potential to do so as long as he's active.

#30 Pol Gonazlez sent in some old forgotten PRs, which were enough to give him a 0.3437 AF cut. He doesn't pass anyone, but that same cut can have him jump three spots if he's able to do it again. In the same area, #39 Stefan Mayr slowed down a bit this week with just an AF cut of 0.5000. He had a great month at least, so this bit of a break is well-deserved. Hopefully his break prolongs so he doesn't pass me... Finally we have #93 Mickael Smolen all the way down. Just a small 0.2960 AF cut from him, as he's been busy destroying everyone in SMK recently, top fifty in just a few weeks!

Movement outside the top 100 included #114 Alex Frasca -3.1250, #141 Leonelli Wilker -0.2970, #197 Alex Malone -12.8910, #198 Troy Dunbeck -2.3120, #214 Tom Mannings -6.7650, #215 Nicholas Harvey -0.5780 and #498 Andrew Tram -2.1100.

New Records

There was no WR's improved (blue) but one non-prb time (pink).

Although it's not completely a world record, it's the first record we've had in a few weeks now. Abel decided to take a stab at MC flap, held by fellow UK karter Lewis Benny. In the end, he prevailed with a time of 29"336, which beats Lewis' time by "06. He wants to try for 29"2, so maybe we will see him beat this record again for the next news update.

Awards

This week's POW was pretty easy if you just look at the stats. This karter had the highest cuts of the week, more than double anyone for that matter. Although his cuts came from weak ranked times, nobody else did much to grab the award for themselves. Anyway, he also hit a nice record, so that only makes his week look that much better. Anyway since you already know who it is, for a great week and jumping up the ladder, Abel Marques wins the POW for the fourth week of June!

There was actually a good amount of activity this month, but not necessarily strong activity. One player did seem to stand out though, cutting nearly 25% of his AF from a moderately-high ranking. He has rose through the Titan rankings nicely, and his constant activity is really starting to pay off. For great movement up the charts and emerging as a outstanding karter, Stefan Mayr wins the POM for the month of June!

Movement

After being surpassed last week, #4 Dylan Gaunt is trying to take back his top three spot. He made a nice 0.1875 AF cut with a couple of God flaps, which included DKP 34"630, RMMF 20"661 and RCM 34"952. It could be a nice battle between David and himself coming up, as they start to leave Timur in the dust. With similar cuts on PRB, he solidifies his position, and continues to move very close to Myth overall, which should come any week at this rate.

Active during his first full week on the charts, #19 Sawara made just a little activity, also making a 0.1875 AF cut to solidify his top twenty position. He is actually not too far from #18 Milan Pacino, so we can see him make the pass in the near future. On PRB, he made a much bigger cut of 1.1406 in order to move up two spots, which included passing Simon Levy. His big cut basically came from just new RCI2 PRs as his old ones were just Non-PRB, but it looks as if he still has far more potential there.

Despite losing out to Sawara recently, #21 Simon Levy is still active and looking to make the top twenty once again. He seems to have slowed down a bit though, with just a 0.3282 AF cut as he brings the gap between himself and #20 Marshall LeVett to under 2 AF points. Simon hit some great times, which included high-ranked PRs on DKP with 1'47"432 Myth B + 34"745 God. A similar cut in PRB helped move him ahead of #20 Marshall LeVett on those charts, although he also did lose a spot to Sawara as mentioned earlier.

The biggest cutter of the week would be none other than #39 Stefan Mayr, who is continuing his tear and causing big movement in his area. Although his monster 5.9531 AF cut only bumped him up two spots, he is at least positioning himself in order to take down more karters along the way. He seems to be able to make big cuts with just a small number of PRs - that being just four this week. Those cuts were obviously large though, and also helped Stefan to reach Titan A overall. At this rate, he'll probably be the next Myth overall player on the Non-PRB ranks.

Last but not least, we have the MKSC machine #93 Mickael Smolen. He moves back into the top 100 after losing a position to Sawara last week, moving up eight spots with a 4.3910 AF cut. Double-digit PRs from him, almost all Hero ranked, except for one Titan time on RKB2 flap. He has just one Expert time left, so look for him to take care of that to end June, as well as possibly reach Hero B overall.

Movement outside the top 100 included #111 Murray Wright -3.0940, #118 Alex Frasca -2.5470, #146 Daan Becker -2.6720, #203 Troy Dunbeck -0.8440, #211 Alex Malone -10.7810 and #215 Nicholas Harvey -0.6090.

Best cuts this week by a landslide, really all I need to say. But I'll add that he reached the top forty overall, and became Titan A of course as well. For another outstanding week, Stefan Mayr wins the POW for the third week of June!

Movement

Making a big splash, #3 David Roldan decided to work on some weak Non-PRB times, knowing huge results would follow. With the power of just four PRs, he amassed a 0.8281 AF cut, propelling him above #4 Dylan Gaunt and #5 Timur Ahmad. Those PRs he hit were all great as you would expect, starting with DH 3lap 1'11"642 and WS 1'55"167 + 37"638. His last PR was a MC flap 29"484 God, which now means he has God times on all of the nitro tracks. Some of the harder gods come from the retro tracks, but maybe David can somehow knocks some out of the way and maybe even become the first overall God? Thomas and Ben don't seem to be doing it, so David could have a good chance if he can reach those LC2 Gods.

Despite being passed by David, Dylan Gaunt was active on the PRB side of the charts, moving up into the #5 slot with a 0.3750 AF cut to jump over #6 Alibis van Deaf. Unfortunately for Dylan, the next player is #4 Ben Stoneman, who is over 4 AF points away, a huge gap to cover. That would take Dylan a very long time to cover and lots of perseverance, but passing Ben would also make Dylan the Australian champion. So for now, the only thing Dylan can do on the PRB side is become the 6th player to reach the myth rankings. As of now he lies on 5.6250 Titan A, so it shouldn't be much more to push him over the top.

A moment we've been anticipating for a few weeks now, #19 Sawara finally premieres on the AF charts, in an extremely respectable position. Sawara most likely rushed his most recent times just to get onto the official charts, so once he takes the time to play them for real, he'll most likely fly up the charts. You can already see his potential through times such as DH 3lap 1'11"755 God, RLC1 3lap 1'12"416 God, RFS flap 32"188 God and RSG 3lap 1'08"968 God. He also lands on Myth C overall status, but is very close to Myth B, so he should be there in the coming weeks. Also on the PRB side, Sawara landed at #20 and Titan C overall. Unlike the Non-PRB charts where he is the Japanese champion, Sawara would have to reach all the way up to #8 Huwakun to gain that status, a long journey, but Sawara shows promise to improve and climb high up the ladders.

The emergence of Sawara on the charts had a very negative effect on #21 Simon Levy. After passing #22 Lenny Andreev and reaching what would be the top twenty, Simon is pushed back due to Sawara joining the charts two spots ahead of him. His 1.4375 AF cut was nice, but now he must cut another 2+ AF in order to reach #20 Marshall LeVett and the top twenty once again. Simon also had a 1.2812 AF cut in PRB, keeping him at #19 as he stays barely ahead of Sawara on those charts.

Last we have #41 Stefan Mayr, who is always active. Usually when you're always active you're gonna go places, and that's what Stefan did. With a 2.5156 AF cut, he moved up two spots, which included passing #42 Stefan Peters for the #5 spot of Germany. He didn't hit many PRs, but sometimes it's quality over quantity, especially as you get higher up.

Movement outside the top 100 included #144 Leonelli Wilker -0.5780, #147 Daan Becker -9.4370, #208 Ryan Trovillion -2.1250, #220 Alex Malone -5.7500, #230 Alencar Faria -3.5780 and #511 Errico Malatesta -2.5150.

Only a few strong cuts this week, with basically two players tying for the highest. So in this case you have to go with the player who's ranked higher, as cuts aren't so easy. Well this player did make a shuffle at the top, and continues to fight to be one of the best. So for big cuts and regaining the top three spot, David Roldan wins the POW for the second week of June!
