New #1! And it's his first time!

Movement

#1 Kouider Benarioua makes most of the news this week. He didn't set any new WRs, but he improved 6 of his lower-ranked PRs in an effort to reduce his AF score. And reduce it he did, by a big 0.28 points, down to an AF of 2.91. This means that Kouider is the new champion! #2 Richard and #2 Hendrik both fall down to equal-second place. Kouider also reduced his ARR to -0.3875, slightly lower then Hendrik's long-standing record low. Both he and Hendrik have 31/32 God times and both are missing DKM 3lap, so there's unfinished business. Currently Kouider is first in AF, ARR, PRSR, WR tally, Lap total times, and Combined total times, but he is behind Richard in Course total times. You can check the rivalry here.

Also active were #459 Jean-Francois Schepers and #461 Nick Welch, who are now neck and neck. Jean-Francois reported 13 PRs after spending a month away (no doubt involving vuvuzelas) while Nick's 9 PRs came after several years vacation. But it was Nick and his fewer PRs that made the bigger cut, gaining him 25 positions compared to Jean-Francois's 14. There was no change in ARR rank, where both are still Advanced C, but J-F is getting close to a promotion.

Another significant mover was #585 Chuck Foster, making a 62pt AF cut to pass 61 players. He is now 446th in 60Hz (up 44), and in ARR he skipped the Intermediate B ranks to go from Int C straight to Int A. Given that Chuck has been playing quite regularly, perhaps we can expect him to hit the Advanced ranks soon?

New Records

No new records, but Kouider's reached some new lows in the stats.

Jerome Schibler, France (~301, Expert D). A good debut position, but Jerome is missing non-shortcut scores for Waluigi Stadium that prevent him from getting a proper ranking just yet.

It's all good, guys: he bought a new controller. You can sleep easy at night.

POQ

Everyone is really crazy about Kouider, it seems. He is like the Old Spice Man. Timur and Jean-Francois had bigger percentage cuts, but perhaps they canceled each other out by being so hard to decide between. Meanwhile, Kouider did not race huge cuts but instead raced several WRs and appeared to have control over the fate and positions of those ranked ahead of him.

Movement

#3 Kouider Benarioua scored 2 PRs this week. He had recently broken his controller and gave us a scare when he said he might not play for a while, but he returned this week and said he bought a brand new controller. So it's all good again. However, somehow Kouider's PRs were not new WRs. Maybe he has to get used to the new controller first. They certainly helped his AF and ARR: he cut 0.41 in AF (now 3.19) and 0.02 in ARR (now -0.34). This means the is only 0.16 behind the champions in AF and 0.03 behind in ARR score. Perhaps he will become champion soon? He rightly points out that although he didn't gain any positions on the charts with he 2 new PRs, he just became the new leader in PRSR score (99.766%) and Total Time for Fast-laps.

For the second time in like two years, #153 Matt Vanderwouw saved up his submission until he got 32 new PRs. Many of them were small, but he really wanted to improve all of them. Well, the end result was that he passed 13 players on the overall chart and 9 players on the 60Hz chart. He broke the top-100 there, where he's now 96th in 60Hz! #100 Leandro Cavali was the unfortunate player to lose his two-digit ranking.

The big mover of the week was #646 Chuck Foster, who made submissions almost every day. Chuck moved up 96 positions with a 102pt AF cut. He still a long way to go, but considering that some of his times are ranked 500 and some are ranked 800, it seems that he needs a few more weeks to even out his timesheet and show us his real ranking. In ARR, Chuck left the Beginners, waved past the Intermediate Ds, and joined the Intermediate Cs.

POQ

You can now vote for the Player of the Quarter here. The candidates are Andrew Johnson, Jean-Francois Schepers, Timur Ahmad and Kouider Benarioua. Andy was active almost every week since April, achieving many milestones; JFS had the biggest cuts; Timur had big cuts and was a site member for less time than the others; and finally Kouider scored a few WRs and moved closer to the top two positions.

Movement

#3 Kouider Benarioua raced a couple of scores, including a new record, and lowered his AF by 0.06 to 3.59. This puts him just over 0.5 AF pts away from the leaders. Unfortunately, Kouider says he broke his controller and doesn't have another to keep playing with. We should find him a new controller so that he can keep going!

#76 Andrew Johnson moved one step closer to reaching top-75, passing Yoann Seznec. He raced some new Titan times, leaving him with 10 Hero times left. Andrew says he'll be out of town for a couple of weeks, so maybe I get to keep my 75th place a little longer smile

#568 Stefan Glosby joined a while back but is only now starting to invest more time to time trials. He made a 40pt AF cut this week (38 positions) and reached Intermediate A level.

New Records

There was 1 new record this week. After improving the Dry Dry Desert course record last week, Kouider now improved the lap to 27"663 G+8. This was a relatively big 0"08 cut on his previous G+6 record, set three months ago. The new lap record is 0"2 ahead of second-placed Christian.

It's that time of year again: time to vote for a POQ. I'll set up a poll soon!

Movement

#3 Kouider raced two records, one of which was a WR. But since he already held that WR, he didn't affect the tie between #=1 Richard and #=1 Hendrik. Kouider is also still 0.62 AF points behind them.

#77 Andrew Johnson achieved some major goals two weeks, but is still playing. Even though he raced only a couple of PRs over the past week, he made a good end to the month with a 1.7pt AF cut. This let him pass #78 Paulo, #79 Stacy and #80 Prashant -- three positions closer to reaching top-75! In the 60Hz rankings, Andrew took 39th place from Paulo. Being ranked in the 30s is new territory for Andrew, and the 'boss', fellow American player Ian Gee, awaits at Lv30.

#315 Timur Ahmad is still cutting PRs like crazy. He raced 10 PRs this week -- most of them Expert times -- but he also improved his 'best' time: a 25"1 LC lap that's ranked 115th and Hero B. This time stands out from the rest in Timur's sheet, so either he got lucky or he's holding back on the other courses. In AF, Timur cut 43 points to move up 46 positions. In ARR, he became the latest Expert player by reaching Expert D.

#596 Stefan Glosby and #727 Zack Weber were also active. Stefan produced his new best PR -- an Expert D time on DKM that's ranked 372nd -- and got closer to the next rank promotion... but still has 0.09 to go.
Zack raced 3 PRs and promises to be more active soon, setting a goal for himself to improve all of his Beginner times. He has 19/32 Beginner times and they are all Beginner A, each waiting to be improved just a little to Intermediate!

New Records

Kouider improved the Dry Dry Desert course WR to 1'28"955. It's a 0"1 improvement on old record, which Kouider already held, but it's the first sub 1'29. There are 5 other players who have subbed 1'30.

New Players

Welcome to...

Fintan Kelly, Ireland (545th, Intermediate A).

Movement

#80 Andrew Johnson continued playing after last week's super POW week, scoring another 3 PRs. They were enough for Andrew to move up past Rob Chastain in the 60Hz rankings, where he is now 40th.

#121 Andrew Howes passed #122 Stephen Regat to become USA #20. #120 Tony Nguyen, the next American player above him, is only one position higher. Andrew improved 3 PRs -- his first bunch in three months -- but he will have to remain at Hero C a bit longer because he now needs 0.0001 ARR points to level-up.

#361 Timur Ahmad scored 15 PRs and reached the top-400 this week. That probably counts as a 'goal', which would mean Timur is doing better than Germany did in their last match. He moved up 74 positions. Maybe the 17 PRs that he didn't improve are PRs-in-waiting. If so, Timur would be showing potential to be top-300 material. In the meantime, he became Advanced A on the ARR chart. The Expert ranks are around the corner.

Movement

An unprecedented and unforeseen event has transpired! Kouider has become champi... no, wait, not that one. That's still a few days away. Rather, another totally different event occurred: there was only 1 submission this week! Shock horror! Maybe it's a glitch with the submission group? But maybe not, because I guess everyone's drained from watching the WC, talking about the WC, listening to vuvuzelas, ranting about vuvuzelas, or talking about ranting about listening to vuvuzelas. It's hard to concentrate with all the fuss. Except for the Americans, who never really took much notice of football or of other countries' noise.

#80 Andrew Johnson is one such American who doesn't care about football or noise. He did quite well, actually, by scoring 6 PRs in what he called his 'most satisfying' submission ever because he fulfilled most of his goals at the same time: he passed #83 Jon Prentice to become USA 10th, and at the same time also passed #81 Rob Chastain to take his USA 9th place, and he also lowered his ARR to 9.94 (sub 10), and he also beat the last of his remaining times that was ranked outside the top-100. Andrew says he has some smaller goals left.... mmm, like reaching top-75!

New Records

No new records, although this is (so far) the lowest goal-scoring WC of the past few decades, and the lowest-scoring week of the past many years.

Movement

#3 Kouider Benarioua has been looking scary the last couple of weeks. He reported another super week by racing 6 new times, of which 2 were WRs. He cut 0.34 pts to reduce his AF score to 3.65. Meanwhile, both #1= Hendrik and #1= Richard dropped by the same margin to hit AF scores of 3.03. This places Kouider only 0.6 pts outside of really shaking things up at the top. Kouider also lowered his ARR by 0.15 to reach the 2nd lowest ARR score; Hendrik is still the ARR king, Richard is still the Total Times king and, as of last week, Kouider became the WR king. The rest of the month should be worth watching.

#163 Alvaro Fababu moved up 3 places. He improved his best record, his Mush Bridge lap, from Myth C to God standard. Quite a cut, indeed, and it's even ranked in the top-25! For the curious: a total of 45 players have scored at least one god time, and Alvaro is now the new "lowest player with a god time". The previous holder of this sort-of-record was #96 Alan DeLoriea, who is ranked 70 positions higher than Alvaro.

As mentioned last week, #650 Kevin Pillinger promised to give MKDD some much needed attention. He raced 19 new PRs for this week, the second week of his comeback. Kevin's AF cut was 48 pts and he moved up 47 places.

New Records

Kouider strikes gold again, racing a pair of records. The first was in Bowser Castle lap, where he smashed the previous WR by 0"3 seconds. The new time of 44"606 G+10 beats Richard's old record of 44"90 G+4, and keep in mind that they are the only two players who have subbed 45.
Kouider's second record was SL flap 23"764 -- a 0"05 win over Hendrik, but he already held the record. This means his record tally increases to 11 WRs, while Richard drops down to 9 WRs. No change in the other figures.

Movement

#1 Hendrik Bunde didn't play, but he has tied #1 Richard Karlsson for 1st place again thanks to #3 Kouider Benarioua's work. Kouider set 5 new records, 2 of which were WRs that beat Richard's times. So, while both Hendrik and Richard lost a little bit on AF, Richard lost more than Hendrik and the duo are duetting again. Kouider was the real winner in the transaction, however, since he not only climbed to the top of the WR tally (see below), but also made a 0.3 pt AF cut. He's now only 1 AF point behind the leaders.

#14 David Schiering wanted to tell us that he's alive and well, so he sent in a pair of PRs, including a god time on Daisy Cruiser. A 0.1 ARR cut this week takes him to about 0.25 pts from Myth+ level.

#21 Christian Wild finally became a Myth B karter after reporting his latest 4 60Hz PRs. He managed a healthy 0.47 AF cut as a result, taking him to 1.9 pts behind former POY Matt Tanzer. Indeed, just about everyone that Christian is standing behind is a superstar, and getting to the top-20 would be nice. But will he keep going, as he's been doing for the past few months, or will he take a break to play other kart games, as he's been promising for that same duration?

#82 Andrew Johnson raced 3 PRs this week, including an MB lap he seemed quite pleased with. Another 1-2 PRs might be enough to pass #81 Jon Prentice and claim a Top-10 USA place. As it stands, Andrew is 11th among the American crowd, and only 0.3 AF pts behind Jon. Andrew did pass Jon on the 60Hz-only ladder, where he moved up to 42nd place.

#166 Alvaro Fababu made a reappearance after a couple of months away. He passed 4 players, and says that he's giving some kart tips to his cousin, who may soon join in. #227 Christopher Studer was also looking to get back into active status, reporting his first PRs of the year. He passed two players overall and two players on the 60Hz chart, where he's now 159th. The top-150 is not too far away.

#435 Timur Ahmad was busy this week. Judging by his 24 new PRs, he must have either spent a good while karting or started to master his sliding skills. He scored a big 115pt cut in AF to not only break the top-500, but also come within good striking distance of the top-400. In ARR, he skipped some ranks by jumping from Intermediate straight into Advanced B level. Timur's rival, #473 Jean-Francois Schepers, improved by 9 positions this week, but now finds himself a little bit behind. J-F said that he's finding it harder to PR, but is setting some goals for himself, such as reaching the top-450 within the next few weeks.

Two other players also made comebacks this week. #662 Brian Acker, inactive since March, reported 21 new PRs for a 47 pt AF cut. He gained 45 places overall and reached 505th place in 60Hz. Close behind him is #697 Kevin Pillinger, inactive since April, who sent in 8 PRs for a 17pt cut. Kevin says he's done with MK64 for now and can return to MKDD to a little while.

New Records
Two new records this week. Kouider improved the BC 3lap to 2'17"542 (from Richard's "572) and the BC lap to 44"891 (from Richard's "906). The swaps mean Kouider's WR tally changed by +2, Richard's changed by -2, and the relative difference of 4 means that Kouider has taken the lead: he has 10 WRs to Richard's 9! It's been a very long time since Richard wasn't first in this tally.
